The game follows an ancient tribe struggling to survive

Facepunch Studios, the makers of Rust and Garry's Mod, has just announced a brand new project in the making, titled Before.

The game answers the age-long question of whether or not we would like to be cavemen again with a resounding yes, enabling us to engage in our most ardent fantasy, while at the same time also advising that things might not turn out as rosy as one would think.

Granted, on the upside, there are no more managers to deal with, no more deadlines, less stress, no rotting your brain away in front of the television, but then there's a lot of death and starvation, which also leads to more death.

Before is a game about survival in prehistoric times, and as any respectable game about cavemen would, it also includes mammoths. Giant ones even.

The trailer is a bit eerie and peaceful, much more so than the harsh reality that all life ends either at the end of a sharp stick or inside some creature's maw.

The announcement trailer was revealed at The Game Awards show in Las Vegas this past weekend, alongside many other premieres, and it seems like an interesting take on the same subject maker of Facepunch Studios' Early Access best-seller, Rust.

Before takes place before there was Rust

Well, rust exists since forever, but before it was neatly catalogued in the repository of human knowledge, it used to be the manifested will of some god or another, and Before takes place around that time, so it's bound to be pretty exciting.

Gamers will quickly learn that life in ancient times is not all hunting, discovering fire and brewing beer all day long, but that finding food and shelter is an everyday necessity and a forceful struggle against nature.

Keeping your tribe safe and healthy is not a simple task, the developers warn, as gamers have to forage and hunt each day, in addition to caring for their young and keeping wild animals at bay.

The studio is working on a playable alpha for the time being, and if you want to keep up with how development is going, you can follow the game's official Twitter account.

We'll come back with more details as soon as Facepunch Studios announce them.

In the meantime, the development of Rust goes on just peachy, as the devs mentioned in a blog post a while back, informing people that they also have two more projects on their slate, to be revealed at a later date.
