Animal rights advocates are outraged as several mice sent by Russians into outer space return to Earth dead

This past Sunday, high officials in Russia announced that they recovered several animals which they had successfully sent into space roughly a month ago.

Animal rights advocates were outraged to hear that, after spending 30 days in space, nearly half of the mice that took part in this mission were dead.

The news that the rodents which have successfully returned to Earth are to be euthanized in order for researchers to make head and tail of how the journey had affected their bodies has also sparked considerable anger, Ecorazzi reports.

By the looks of it, all of the lizards that accompanied the mice on this trip managed to survive the experience. Still, they too are to soon be euthanized.

The specialists in charge of overseeing this mission say that, animal rights aside, their carrying out such experiments on animals such as lizards and mice provides them with valuable data concerning how living conditions in space could affect humans.
