GFI experts warn users of the threats posed by the Boxer malware

A Russian Android app market that offers all the antivirus software you can possibly imagine has been found to be part of a malicious operation. The cybercriminals that run the site masquerade the infamous Boxer Trojan behind allegedly legitimate apps.

None of the software titles on the site is made up. They’re all offered by the genuine security firms, GFI experts report.

This makes the site somewhat legitimate-looking, leading users to believe that they can find all the applications in one single place.

Users who take the bait and install one of the apps, are served a piece of malware identified by GFI Software solutions as Trojan.AndroidOS.Generic.A.

The Trojan sends out SMSs to a premium rate number, inflating the bills of unsuspecting Android device owners.

As always, be sure to avoid shady-looking third-party app markets.
