Video game developer EA Sports is announcing that Russell Westbrook is the cover athlete for the coming NBA Live 16 basketball simulation and the player will be involved in promotional activities linked to the title in the run-up to launch.

The first actual look at gameplay taken from the experience will be delivered during the Electronic Arts press conference that will take place during E3 2015.

Russell Westbrook is playing as a point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder and is one of the most capable players in the entire league, solid on both defense and offense, the creator of 11 triple-doubles during the current season.

He has been an All-Star players four times and also received the Most Valuable Player award for the 2015 edition of the match between the best NBA players.

Anthony Stevenson, the EA Sports vice president in charge of marketing, states, "NBA Live 16 is all about self-expression, and who better embodies that than Westbrook, both on and off the court? Russell plays every game like he has something to prove. Our team is building NBA Live the same way, so we’re thrilled to have him as an ambassador for our game."

The player himself has not yet reacted to the fact that he is the cover athlete for NBA Live 16.

The basketball sim needs an upgrade in terms of gameplay

The big problem with the coming basketball sim from EA Sports is that, for a long time, the quality of the gameplay was not the one that the fan community was expecting.

The EA Sports team at Tiburon needs to make sure that NBA Live 16 manages to compare favorably with the rival NBA 2K16 from 2K Games, which has just recruited Spike Lee to direct the core single-player experience.

The studio has not yet talked about the way it will improve gameplay and whether it is making any big changes to the Ultimate Team experience.

E3 2015 is the perfect moment to show off the core new features in a trailer and launch a pre-order offer.

NBA Live 16 will be launched on the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony, but no release date has yet been announced.
