One of the most important areas where SSD were lagging behind their platter based counterparts was in storage capacity, but latest solid drives to appear seem to obliterate this last standing barrier as RunCore has just announced an SSD that packs an impressive 1TB storage space inside a regular 3.5-inch enclosure.

As its usually the case with such high capacity solutions, RunCore's drive is built using two separate SSDs that are linked together using a RAID controller setup in RAID 0 mode and are packed inside a single 3.5-inch drive unit.

As a rsult the operating system sees only one drive, RunCore's offering being able to deliver transfers speeds of over 500MB/s, almost reaching the maximum theoretical throughput of its SATA III 6 GB interface (rated at about about 600 MB/s thanks to its 10b/8b coding).

On their own each drive can reach a more than impressive 285MB/s read and 275MB/s write speed thanks to the SandForce SF-1222 controllers used by RunCore in building this SSD.

Furthermore, if you value your data security above everything else (speed in this case), RunCore's drive also comes with a special switch that enables users to go between the regular RAID 0 operation mode and a RAID 1 mode thus assuring data mirroring and improved security in favor of pure speed.

Released in 2010, the SandForce SF-1222 controller is used in a wide range of high performance SSDs available out there, including models build by A-Data, Corsair, Patriot, G.Skill or OCZ, to name just a few.

Unfortunately, no informations were provided about the RAID controller used inside this drive, so we don't know anything about it apart from its SATA III 6 GB support.

Planned to be showcased at CeBit 2011 in March 2011, RunCore's SSD hasn't received an official price just yet, the company refusing to make any comments on that matter when questioned by LegitReviews.
