14 DAY TRIAL // RunCore may not have given its newest solid-state drive the fastest interface in the world, but it did give it something that will make the day of people who want to be absolutely, undeniably certain they can make it impossible for others to see their files.
The InVincible SSD goes to more absurd lengths to erase your data than other storage drives, and it does it all on command.
On the outside, it looks like a regular solid-state drive, but things start going down after its installation.
The SSD has the regular power and SATA cable, but it also comes with a pair of buttons: blue and red.
The blue button initiates an “intelligent elimination” process which overwrites everything on the drive with meaningless code.
You'd think this would be enough of a feat, but RunCore has taken into account even people who might want to recover erased data using a special program or some such.
That's right, the red button totally destroys the data by sending a strong shock through the NAND chips, physically ruining them.
You'll be sacrificing your investment, but at least no one will be able to salvage anything from what you had on the unit.
Along with the press release, RuCore presented a video, one that we've embedded below for your convenience. The InVincible gives off smoke when the red button is pressed and, upon being taken apart, shows burned and cracked NAND chips.
Those effects may have been edited into the video though, to prove a point. The smoke appears and disappears a bit quickly and the writing that should be on the smoked and cracked chips is almost pretty much smudged out. We'll let image designers and editors figure out if this is the case.
The RunCore PATA and SATA InVincible SSDs come in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch form factors. The thinner ones have capacities of 16 GB to 256 GB, while the 2.5-inch models range from 16 GB to 512 GB. Unfortunately, prices are still unknown, despite shipments having supposedly started.
