Chinese solid state drive maker RunCore has just announced the introduction of a new series of solid SSDs based on the SATA 6Gbps SandForce controllers, which the company claims were specially tuned for delivering optimized performance.

The new drives were released into the Pro-V MAX series and initially the range will include four models with capacities going from 60GB to 480GB, all using the standard 2.5-inch form factor characteristic to most other SSDs out there.

At the heart of every unit stands a second generation SandForce SF-2281controller featuring native support for the SATA 6Gbps interface, which is paired with an optimized firmware.

According to RunCore, this combo enabled the drive to reach sequential read and write transfer speeds of 560MB/s and 520 MB/s, respectively, while its burst random write performance is rated at 87K IOPS (input/output operations per second). The sustained 4K random access speed is said to reach 60K IOPS.

As is the case with all SandForce SF-2200-based drives, the Pro-V MAX series also supports the DuraClass and DuraWrite technologies with full support for the TRIM command.

“The new 2.5-inch SATA3, 6Gbs, drive is the nice addition to our existing portfolio of SSD products. The Pro-V MAX is based on the SF-2281 controller with the optimized firmware (the Golden FW),” said Amy Wang, VP of strategies and business product development at RunCore.

“The Pro-V MAX is ideal for use in gaming machines, HPC & datacenter servers,” concluded the company’s rep.

RunCore hasn't revealed any information regarding the price or the release date of the Pro-V MAX solid state drives, besides saying that these will launch “soon.”

When these SSDs will reach the market however, they will have to go head to head with solutions such as OCZ’s Vertex 3 series or Kingston’s HyperX SSD, to name just a few of their competitors.
