It appears that Samsung is about to launch a new Galaxy Tab tablet. This time the Korean company plans to announce an 11.6-inch slate that seems to be Samsung’s answer to Apple’s new iPad tablet.

We already reported yesterday about Samsung’s “special announcement,” but until recently we had no clue what device will be unveiled by the handset manufacturer.

Fortunately, the guys over at Pocket-lint have received information from a trustworthy source that Samsung indeed plans to launch something special at the SXSW event, which is set to kick off on March 9 in Austin, Texas.

According to them, a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 11.6 will be announced tomorrow, which is supposed to rival Apple’s new tablet.

Although Samsung’s slate comes with an unusual screen size, it is said that the display has a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, which seems to be better than new Ipad’s 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution.

Samsung has yet to reveal any additional details on the mysterious Galaxy Tab 11.6, which was leaked for the first time back in December 2011.

Even though there is no official confirmation regarding the slate’s specs sheet, rumor has it that the Galaxy Tab 11.6 will be equipped with a dual core Samsung Exynos 5250 processor clocked at 2GHz.

It will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board. Design-wise it won’t be much larger than the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet due to the thin bezel, the folks at Pocket-lint claim.

No other details regarding the tablet’s specs sheet have surfaced yet, but stay tuned for more info on the subject.

If the information is accurate, then Samsung Galaxy Tab 11.6 might be officially unveiled on Friday, March 9 at 4:00 p.m. in the Samsung Blogger Lounge (Austin Convention Center, room 19AB). Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
