The recent Sony rumor saga receives a brand new episode

There are so many rumors regarding what Sony is going to do next with its PlayStation 3, that we start feeling like we'll have a brand new console coming this year (yes, the PlayStation 4) and not a revamped version of the current one. As we have informed you already, there are some strong rumors suggesting that the 80 GB PS3 will no longer be produced and it will be replaced by a 120 or 160 GM model. Now, according to a very new, hot and "looking-to-real-to-be-fake" piece of news, it seems that we can now expect a PlayStation 3 Slim to be launched sometime this year.

According to T3.com, a "particularly well-informed insider" from Sony has confirmed that the Slim version is in the works and, even more, it could be the 160GB version everybody is talking about right now. But this shouldn't come as a big surprise, having in mind that Sony likes slim and sexy video game consoles as much as we do, as the PSP, PS One and PS2 have already proved it.

However, Sony keeps denying all the rumors that we hear, with the same line we all got tired of: " we're not commenting on rumors and speculation". But since it would've been much easier and they would've burned fewer calories if they would have said "Not true" instead of that long line, we will take it as a 'yes' and quietly await for the official announcement of the Slim PlayStation 3.

And this could pop up pretty soon, since Sony's executive teams and product strategists are meeting this week in Japan to discuss about the company's future strategies. Furthermore, even though the giant's games company has finally turned a profit last year, the PlayStation 3 sales targets were dropped from 11 million to 9.5 million. And since Sony always likes to achieve more than expected, we're probably going to see the release of the PS3 Slim in the near future, ready to sell like crazy.
