The last few weeks have been flooded with rumors linked to the follow-up to the Nintendo Wii home console, about which analysts and players are expecting to hear an announcement before the end of the year, possibly at the E3 trade show.

Now a site in France, called 01net, which is to be trusted because it managed to get some information about the PlayStation Portable 2, aka the NGP, out of Sony before the official announcement, has said that the new controller created by Nintendo will have a standard definition touchscreen, no bigger than six inch, allowing the player to get information about the video game he is playing while he is using motion to control it.

The 01net information also says that all current Wii-based accessories, like various guns and the Balance Board, will be supported by the new Nintendo home console, which is apparently developed under the very French codename “Project Café.”

Apparently the new device is also designed to make sure that all the video games launched for the current Wii and for the Game Cube can be played on it, which might lead to huge games when the device is first launched, a lot of them based around nostalgia.

The French site report has some elements that sync with information delivered by Game Informer, saying that the new Nintendo home console will be slightly better in terms of power than the current Xbox 360 and that it will have an internal architecture that will make porting games much easier.

The current Wii model has seen a significant slowdown in terms of sales in late 2010 and early this year, falling behind the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, which has seen important growth when compared to the same period of last year.

Nintendo has not commented on the rumors about the Wii 2.
