An anonymous source that is working inside the headquarters of video-game developer and hardware manufacturer Sony has said that the company is working hard to create a new version of the PlayStation 3 home-gaming console that would be impossible to hack.

The source is saying that the new model will be using the same Slim look seen in the last year and that it will have a 300 GB capacity hard drive and will retail for a little over 200 dollars.

In recent weeks, the prices of the existing PlayStation 3 consoles, which can be hacked, has been reduced in some stores, a move that suggests that Sony is aiming to move a significant number of the old consoles to gamers and then make an official announcement about a new and impossible to hack version of the PlayStation 3.

Sony is probably also aiming to have a clear and simple way of making sure that all these hackable consoles do not play pirated content.

It seems that the recent leak of Killzone 3 on torrent sites before the official launch date was one of the main catalysts for the new development at Sony, as the company aims to secure its main gaming platform and make sure that all users can only play titles that have been bought through official channels.

A group of hackers has managed to penetrate the layered security of the PS3 and have claimed to have the means of developing custom firmware for the device while also gaining access to the keys needed to sign homebrew and pirated material as coming officially from Sony.

The company has taken legal action against the hackers and has sought to limit the spread of the hacking information, but all of it is still widely available online so a new secure version of the PlayStation 3 is something that the company could certainly use.
