The film might be launched at the same time as 2012 video game

A series of website registrations from Sony Pictures suggests that the production company has managed to enter into a deal with video game publisher to create and launch an Assassin's Creed movie.

Fans of the franchise have spotted no less than sixteen domain names that are linked to Assassin's Creed and are all traceable back to Sony Pictures.

All of them were secured on October 20 and a number of sources are also claiming that Ubisoft chose to go with Sony because they were willing to work closely with the Motion Pictures division at the French publisher on the new project.

Ubisoft has long been thought to be in talks with a number of companies for an Assassin's Creed movie, with the ultimate aim being to make the franchise as much of a success in the movie world as in the games space.

Ubisoft has tried a similar move before with Prince of Persia: Sans of Time, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton, with somewhat mixed results both critically and financially.

At the moment Ubisoft is getting ready to launch the fourth full game in the series, called Revelations, which will see Ezio move to Constantinople, following in the footsteps of Altair, while Desmond continues his story set in present time.

Players will have a few new tools, like a hidden hook, to play around with and will be able to enjoy an expanded multiplayer mode.

In 2012 the whole current story arc will be closed down with another game, which will be focused on Desmond.

It's not clear whether the movie could be released at the same time, starring the same characters and delivering a similar story, or whether Sony Pictures will create a whole new narrative, which keeps the themes of the game while compressing the entire series in the space of two hours.
