Might launch them in Q2 2010

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is rumored to plan making yet another interesting move on the market, namely to come to the shelves with handsets that will include dual-SIM capabilities. Since some of the world's largest mobile phone makers made the move, including Samsung, LG, or Motorola, the No. 1 handset vendors seems set to follow the trend.

At least these would be the company's plans for 2010, according to Eldar Murtazin, who most of you should know already. Moreover, he says that a local Nokia executive already confirmed the work on these dual-SIM devices, while also stating that the release window for the phones has been set at the second quarter of the next year, and that the mid-market segment is where they are aimed at.

The dual-SIM handsets are quite popular in certain markets around the world, and one might be already aware of the fact that there are companies that have a wide range of such devices available on those markets. However, it is also understandable that carriers might not like these phones that much, meaning that there are little chances that we'll see them included in operators' offerings.

On the other hand, if Nokia indeed plans launching such devices, they will probably be aimed at emerging markets, for it has been already said to have a poor performance in those areas. And since there is demand for them, it's an opportunity that Nokia had to take, especially since it has just lost the leading position on the UK market in favor of Samsung, which actually aims at out pacing Nokia all around Europe.

However, nothing it yet official on Finnish phone maker's dual-SIM devices, though we won't have to wait that much before an announcement will emerge, it seems. It remains to be seen what type of handsets they will be, smartphones or not, and what other capabilities beside dual-SIM they will deliver to users. Stay tuned to find out more on this matter as soon as details are available.
