It seems that with gamers and news editors already in the know about the big releases Sony and Microsoft are preparing for the fall, with Project Natal and the PlayStation Move detailed and put on display at recent trade shows, speculation about what Nintendo plans to do next is even more rampant.

Regie Fils-Aime, the leader of Nintendo of America, has said that a successor for the Wii is not needed yet, because the videogame creators working at Nintendo have not asked for it. But there are more rumors about a potential Nintendo DS2, which will be unveiled for the first time at the E3 trade show in June.

Raymond Padilla offered up a new crop of rumors related to the device, which he says he gathered at the GDC. The Nintendo DS2 will have two screens, just as the now available handheld, but both of the them will be bigger than those of the LL version and will offer a better resolution.

Apparently, the space diving them will be small, allowing for some video content to use both of them as one display. This opens up the door for more complex scene settings, with gamers able to switch from one display to two depending on the gameplay situation they need to render.

The device will also be using an accelerometer, similar to that in the iPhone, for a more complete input experience. Overall, the machine seems as easy to develop for as the GameCube, with developers saying that the same amount of gaming power is delivered by both devices. Some companies may aim to finish their games for the DS2 before the end of 2010, which suggests that Nintendo might launch it before the year is over.

Of course, these are rumors and speculations at the moment but as E3 approaches, Nintendo will be under more pressure to confirm or deny some of the information.
