The Russian site of Electronic Arts and the official site of the Australian videogame retailer GAME have listed Mass Effect 2 as coming to the PlayStation 3 home gaming console from Sony. Since other retailers do not have this listing, it's not clear whether it's an error on the part of the two above sources or whether they have disclosed information that BioWare has kept hidden until now.

The company reacted to the most recent rumors with Patrick Weeks, one of the writers on the Mass Effect 2 project, writing on the official forums that “we don't comment on rumors.”

Matt Atwood, who is the public relations man for BioWare, previously stated that “I believe we'll be Xbox 360 exclusive for at least a short period of time,” which is incredibly vague when it comes to confirming or denying the existence of a videogame for a platform. Electronic Arts, the publisher of the title, is saying that the recent announcements are not official and that the Russian site creators are guilty of disinformation by typo.

Mass Effect 2 is set to arrive in the spring of 2010 and will continue the space saga featuring Commander Shepard. His missions will be to recruit a so-called “suicide squad” and to look for a cluster of human colonists that disappeared from the galaxy under mysterious circumstances.

BioWare is promising that all the elements which proved frustrating to some level in the first game in the series, from the combat to the Mako sequences, have been improved for Mass Effect 2, while the conversation system will allow for more options and for a more personal play style.

It's probably a pretty safe bet to say that Mass Effect 2 will, at some point, arrive on the PlayStation 3 as Electronic Arts and BioWare cannot afford to miss out on the potential sales. It's also pretty safe to say that the videogame will probably arrive at a later date than on the Xbox 360 and the PC.
