A listing from ShopTo, one of the leading online retailers in the United Kingdom, has suggested that the newly revealed LEGO Lord of the Rings might be launched on October 26 of this year.

The placeholder pre-order page has since been taken down and only talked about an Xbox 360 version of LEGO Lord of the Rings and neither Traveller’s Tales nor LEGO has officially commented on the title’s existence.

New LEGO sets that have been sent early to some stores and reviewers, based on The Lord of the Rings, have the logos of both Warner Bros. and Traveller’s Tales featured prominently, which means that they will be used as the basis to create a video game experience.

A similar tactic was used for LEGO Batman 2 earlier during 2012, but the two companies took some time before offering official confirmation and details about their project.

It’s not clear whether the video game will be based on the movie trilogy created by Peter Jackson or whether they will be closer to the book written by J.R.R. Tolkien.

The launch of the new LEGO Lord of the Rings video game might be tied to the release of the first of the two new Hobbit movies, which is expected before the end of 2012.

Traveller’s Tales picked up the LEGO license way back in 2004, and since then it has used to deliver video games adaptations of toys sets based on well-known licenses like: Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean.

The games have been mostly successful and were praised for their humorous take on the various game worlds and for the way they managed to integrate the events of the stories with the particular mechanics of the LEGO sets.

Fans of the Lord of the Rings universe can use the Turbine-made MMO to satisfy their gaming requirements before the LEGO title is out.
