Gears of War 3 has not been announced yet but sources are so eager to talk about it that they cannot contain their enthusiasm in front of the press. We already know the game is set to be launched in April 2011, a fact confirmed by EpicGames, and that the platform for the latest installment of the cover-based shooter will still be the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

Now, sources talking to Edge magazine are saying that the team at Epic Games should make significant changes to the way it is played, rendering it more of a revolution than an evolution.

New enemies will be shown off for the first time, featuring long, flexible tentacles that can reach out and touch COG troopers who believe they are safe behind cover. The humans will also have some fresh tricks up their sleeve, allowing them to use explosives, which can be delivered underground to positions occupied by the Locust.

Sources are stating that a mech will be introduced, allowing the protagonist of the series to deliver quite a bit of firepower against some enemies while also providing cover and protection for allied troops. It seems that the changes to the cover system and the enemies will be shared between multiplayer and single player.

It also seems that the gray color palette of the first two Gears of War titles will be a thing of the past with the game set during summer and a lot more green stuff set to provide the backdrop for the alien killing. Underwater missions will appear for the first time in the series. Until now, Microsoft has not commented on the rumors.

Some of the rumored details could be confirmed as soon as Monday, when Epic Games developer Cliff Blezinski will make an appearance on the Late Night show with Jimmy Fallon in order to talk about a new project that his team is working on. It could be Gears of War 3 or Bulletstorm.
