But very unlikely

Gears of War was a great game for Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. As such, it was ported to the PC and released a year later with some brand new content that made console users quite angry, but they still played it.

Last year, Gears of War 2 appeared for the same console from Microsoft and its creator, Cliff Bleszinski, promised that this game wouldn't end up on the PC with any new content and that the Xbox 360 would be the only platform for it. Even though he was quite firm in his statement, analysts and PC gamers alike thought that after about 6 months an announcement about the PC version would arrive.

Now, IGN reports that a website already has information about the Gears of War 2 PC edition, which will sport complete functionality with Microsoft's Games For Windows Live service, and that it will also sport a few new additions in terms of content and the option to acquire downloadable content through the Live service.

But don't start partying just yet, PC gamers, as, after a bit of digging around that website, it seems that the announcement, which seemed almost like a press release, was inspired from another one. Not from a presumed leaked file from Epic but from the official announcement of the Xbox 360 version of the game, and the terms Xbox Live were simply replaced with Games For Windows Live.

Also, another piece of information that smashes the rumor are the retail codes, namely the UPC code, MPN number, and ASIN identifier, which are all from Sega's PC version of The Golden Compass, a game adapted from a book-based movie.

Think what you will about this rumor, but it definitely seems that it isn't true and that we won't get to see a PC version of Gears of War 2, in the near future at least. Also, Microsoft's comment on the matter doesn't seem very indicative of such a project being underway at one of its own or Epic Games' studios. “Gears of War is a great franchise first and foremost for Xbox 360, and therefore we're focusing on that platform for Gears of War 2. We have decided to not create a PC version of Gears of War 2.”
