Sonim, a well-known manufacturer of rugged mobile phones, and Bell Canada have just launched the XP5220 BOLD handset.

Exclusively available on Bell’s newly launched PTT network, Sonim XP5220 BOLT can be purchased for only $99.95 CAD with a new three-year agreement.

Customers who want to avoid being tied by a long-term contract can get the rugged handset for a suggested retail price of $399.95 CAD.

The handset is aimed at active people who work in challenging environments such as construction, oil and gas, transportation, security, facilities management and utilities, and is built on the same “ultra-rugged platform that holds the Guinness World Record for the toughest phone.”

According to Sonim, the XP5520 BOLT is fully submersible to 2 meters under water, specified to handle 2-meter drops onto concrete, resistant to extreme temperatures, and dust proof. In addition, the handset comes with a screen protected by impact and scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass.

Moreover, Sonim XP5220 BOLD features extended talk time of 12 hours, active noise cancelation and enhanced audio with a 23mm speaker, which is said to be protected by a GORE Protective Vent.

On the back, the phone sports a standard 2-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash and video recording capabilities.

It is also worth mentioning the phone packs a built-in GPS receiver, which is complemented by Telenav navigation service. Obviously, the XP5520 BOLT supports instant calling via Bell's new PTT (Push to Talk) network.

Bell PTT is the next generation of Push-to-talk and we are proud to introduce this world-leading network and devices like the Sonim XP5520 BOLT to Canada. Coupled with Bell PTT coverage nearly twice that of competing services and faster PTT data speeds than any before, the unbeatable durability and rugged performance of the Sonim XP5520 BOLT means instant communication just got better,” said Wade Oosterman, president of Bell Mobility.
