Recently, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has announced the launch of a new device in its rugged series of handsets, called Samsung Xcover 271 (B2710).

The new generation of Xcover comes to the market after being certified with IP67 rating, said to be the highest rating any Samsung mobile phone received so far.

Being a rugged device, the new Samsung Xcover 271 (B2710) is shock, dust and water resistant, and is even said to be capable to withstand being submerged in 1 meter deep water for a period of time of 30 minutes.

But this is not all, it seems. Being rugged does not mean that the new mobile phone does not come with other appealing features too, and there are plenty of these to count, that's for sure.

The hardware specifications of this device includes support for 3G networks, as well as video calling capabilities, at least this is what a recent article on Samsung Hub notes.

Moreover, the mobile phone is said to land on shelves with a 2-inch display, with torch, digital compass and pedometer, as well as with loudspeaker and a large keypad.

Built-in GPS receiver is also included into the mix, as well as support for Google Maps and FM Radio.

When it comes to the storage space available on it, the Samsung Xcover 271 brings 30MB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card for more storage to be added into the equation.

The phone's battery is another important feature, it seems, being capable to deliver up to 19 hours of talk time on 2G networks, or up to 7 hours on 3G.

According to the news, the new rugged mobile phone from Samsung is expected to be released on the market in Sweden sometime in October, featuring a price tag of about 1,700 kronor (approximately US$241).

No info on the handset's availability on additional markets emerged for the time being, but it might not be too long before details are made available on this, so keep an eye on this space for more.
