It’s currently available only in North America

The rugged version of Samsung Galaxy S5 Active was released several months ago in the United States. The smartphone was exclusive to AT&T for quite some time, but then it got introduced in Canada at all major carriers as well.

However, the Galaxy S5 Active is not available in any other regions except North America. The good news is that this is about to change, as SamMobile reports that the international version of Galaxy S5 Active will be launched in Europe very soon.

Sources familiar with Samsung’s plans claim that the Galaxy S5 Active might go on sale in some European countries for no less than €630 ($795) outright. Obviously, price depends on each market, so expect the Galaxy S5 Active to cost more or less.

There doesn’t seem to be any difference between the US version and European model in terms of specs. However, the European Galaxy S5 Active won’t be branded with any carrier’s logo; instead, it features a simple Samsung logo on the back side, right under the main camera.

Moving on to specifications, the Galaxy S5 Active has the same specs as Samsung’s previous flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. This means that the rugged version is equipped with the same 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit, and 2GB of RAM.

It's IP67-certified and compliant with MIL-STD 810G standard for dust and water resistance

The Galaxy S5 Active packs only 16GB of internal memory, but users will be able to further expand storage up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

It also sports the same 5.1-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution. On the back, the rugged smartphone features a 16-megapixel photo snapper that includes an ISOCELL module and offers LED flash, autofocus, and video recording.

The Galaxy S5 Active is heavier, at 170g (battery included), than the standard model that weighs only 145g. It’s also slightly larger and thicker (8.9mm), in comparison with Galaxy S5 (8.1mm). Still, both smartphones come with heart-rate sensor and 2800 mAh removable battery.

Unlike the standard Galaxy S5, the Active model is IP67 certified for water and dust resistance. The handset also complies with the MIL-STD 810G standard for ruggedness, so expect this one to be pretty sturdy in day-to-day use.

We expect Samsung Galaxy S5 Active to ship with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box, but we don’t rule out the possibility of it running a newer version of the platform.
