Titanium has been used as a means to defend the structural integrity of various machines or components, particularly for protection against the outside, for a long time, and ioSafe decided to use it on its latest storage devices.

There are various ways to make a storage unit stand out from the rest, whether they be meant to boost performance, storage capacity, security or endurance.

Some HDDs or SSDs, or flash drives, focus on one of these assets, while others try to optimize more than one aspect, perhaps all of them at once, though at the cost of a higher price.

Regardless, ioSafe decided to emphasize physical endurance when it put together the new Rugged Portable collection.

It is a series of external storage units, both hard disk drives and solid state drives, that can withstand a variety of unfriendly conditions.

The first thing that stands out is their enclosures, made of CNC-machine aluminum for the hard drives and titanium for the solid state drives.

The company made its units capable of surviving shocks, immersion in water or other liquids (hydraulic fluids, oils, diesel fuel) and exposure to rain, salt, fog, UV and icing or even freezing rain.

This is achieved by means of the Full Suspension Drive, HydroSafe, ChemSafe, EnviroSafe and AltiSafe technologies, which also let the HDD/SSD work at altitudes of up to 15,000 ft (aluminum)/30,000 (titanium).

This all is just the physical aspect and is supplementary to the high performance that the drives promise.

The main detail of note is the existence of the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface, which ensures high data transfer rates, while the 12+ month Data Recovery Service package covers third-party forensic recovery services of up to $5,000.

The 250 GB to 1 TB HDDs and 256 GB/512 GB SSDs should already be set up for pre-order, with prices starting at $150.
