Rovio Entertainment, the developer and global operator of Angry Birds, has announced that it is now fully operational on a corporate and marketing level in China and that they are preparing some game-based surprises for their fans in the country.

The company says that China is at the moment the second largest market in the world for Angry Birds and it seems that the number of downloads will go past the 100 million units mark before the end of 2011.

Specifically for the Chinese market Rovio is preparing a Moon Festival episode for Angry Birds, which will be launched in September, just before the traditional Middle Autumn Festival.

The Moon Festival content will be launched in partnership with Madhouse, the most important mobile advertising network in China.

The new content will also showcase Chinese culture and tradition to gamers from other parts of the world.

Rovio also plans to launch real world Angry Birds moon cakes on the Chinese market.

Peter Vesterbacka, who is the Chief Marketing Officer at Rovio, has stated, “As we have done in all of our markets around the world, we will create products specifically for this market. Angry Birds will recognize the uniqueness of China and our Chinese fans.”

He added, “We are delighted to be fully operational in China. China has great potential for growth, but just as exciting is the opportunity to build a creative franchise, a marriage of virtual and real life, that is special for China and exciting for our Chinese fans.”

Rovio has managed to quick reach worldwide success with Angry Birds, one of the most downloaded mobile device games in the world at the moment.

The company is milking the concept as much as it can, preparing to launch an Angry Birds movie, but it's not clear whether it has other video games in development that can be as successful.
