During CTIA Wireless 2007, Nuance Communications has announced that Canada's operator Rogers Wireless will offer Nuance Voice Control, a speech-enabled mobile search and messaging service on select devices to its subscribers. Nuance Voice Control is a comprehensive subscription-based system driven entirely by natural voice commands, that will allow Rogers' customers to simply speak a request, at the push of a single button.

This is made to eliminate the need to navigate complex menus, by using most mobile phones' tiny and inconvenient keypads, for performing simple tasks. Users can easily dictate and send emails or text messages, create calendar entries or dial a contact, even search the web for news, listings and various info or content. By using intuitive search commands, the user won't have to search the web via the phone's keypad. The system won't require any voice training which is why most people will be able to start using it in a matter of minutes.

'Nuance has made a significant investment in the development of speech-enabled services to help Rogers Wireless and other wireless carriers improve the mobile experience for subscribers around the world,' said Michael Thompson, vice president and general manager, telco, search and communications. 'Working with carriers such as Rogers Wireless, Nuance will continue to deliver innovative speech solutions that enhance the accessibility and utility of mobile devices.'

The simple intuitive voice commands include "Weather for Toronto", "Sports: hockey", "Top news stories", "Search Web for population of British Columbia" and others. The complete mobile service with speech-enabled search and communications applications will become available for Rogers subscirbers during May this year, for $6 a month.
