Canada’s Rogers is the first wireless carrier in the world to have started shipping the Nokia Lumia 920 smartphone to its customers.

On Tuesday, the wireless carrier officially announced that the first batch of Lumia 920 units had been sent out to users.

The handset arrives with support for the wireless carrier’s 4G LTE network, as well as with all the features and enhancements that Windows Phone 8 was unveiled with.

“Today, we’re thrilled to ship the first Nokia Lumia 920 smartphones to customers across the country and to further expand the largest selection of LTE devices available from a Canadian carrier,” Rogers said in a blog post.

Lumia 920 is not the only Windows Phone 8 device that will make an official appearance on shelves at Rogers, as the carrier also aims at providing users with the option to choose between HTC and Samsung devices powered by Microsoft’s new platform.

One thing that should be noted, however, is the fact that only a limited number of Lumia 920 devices have been sent out to users at Rogers, and only to those who pre-ordered the black flavor of the device.

“We were able to ship a limited supply of Nokia Lumia 920 smartphones in black to some customers who reserved a device using the Rogers Reservation System today,” the carrier announced.

“These customers will be the first in Canada to have a Windows Phone 8 smartphone. We’ll be shipping more devices in the coming weeks.”

The mobile phone was released with a PureMotion HD+ touchscreen and with a PureView camera on the back, as well as with a dual-core processor inside and 1GB of RAM. It is also the first Windows Phone device to pack wireless charging.

In addition to the features and applications that Microsoft has already announced for the Windows Phone 8 platform, the device also comes with specific software from Nokia, such as Nokia Maps with Nokia Drive, Nokia Transport and Nokia City Lens.

At Rogers, Lumia 920 was launched at $99.99 (€78) with the signing of a three-year contract agreement, but users can also grab it with month-to-month plans, for $549.99 (€425).
