Canadian mobile phone carrier Rogers Wireless has recently lowered the price tag for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone from Research In Motion, which is now available for only $149.99 on a 3-year contract, and is also reported to be preparing the release of the second BlackBerry Storm. There are no exact details on when the Blackberry Storm 2 will arrive in Canada via Rogers, but it seems that all is set to start moving quite soon.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 (or Bold 2) was released on the market back in November last year, when it featured a price tag set at $299.99 on a three-year contract, but now it is available for only half of that. Rogers is not the first wireless operator in Canada to lower the price of this smartphone, but enthusiasts will certainly rejoice when learning that it followed suit. Those who would like to purchase the device free of contract will still be able to do so, but they'll have to get $599.99 for it.

“See all there is to see with BlackBerry Storm smartphones from Rogers and other major retailers,” is what an ad in the March issue of Canadian Business magazine reads, showing clearly that the mobile phone carrier is set to soon add the second touchscreen device from RIM to its offering, reports MobileSyrup. The operator has been already rumored to plan launching the second generation Storm on its airwaves, and it seems that all might pan out in the near future, the news site states.

Although no exact details on when the BlackBerry Storm 2 is set to land at Rogers emerged, nor on the price tag it might feature when available with the carrier, rumors on the company set to soon bring to Canada the Storm series have been floating around the web lately, and they might prove true in the end. However, we'll still have to wait for an official announcement before saying that all has been nailed down, so keep an eye on this space for more updates.
