Rockstar Games confirms that its Social Club service hasn't been hacked or compromised by nefarious individuals and reminds Grand Theft Auto 5 players to stay safe and not use the same username and password combination on other services or websites.

This arrives after a rush of complains from players who were kicked out of the game after they apparently logged in from another location.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the most popular games released in recent times, and as you can imagine, lots of hackers have tried to compromise the game's GTA Online multiplayer for fame or just for their own kind of fun.

GTA 5 players have reported compromised Social Club accounts

In the last few days, more and more players have started complaining that they've been kicked from the online mode because they apparently logged in from another location or platform.

This immediately led to reports that Rockstar's own Social Club was hacked. As you can imagine, the studio doesn't want its own service to be associated with a lack of security, and after an investigation, it confirms that its systems haven't been compromised.

Rockstar's Social Club is safe, but players need to avoid vulnerabilities

According to the studio, which confirms to Kotaku that its Social Club hasn't been hacked, it seems that other websites that deal with Grand Theft Auto 5 have been breached and those who used the same username and password combinations are being targeted by the hackers.

The developer emphasizes that players need to stay safe and secure and recommends avoiding using the same username or passwords over and over again.

"The Rockstar Games Social Club has not been compromised. However, it appears that attempts have been made to access user accounts using email and password combinations from an unaffiliated, compromised website or database elsewhere on the internet," the company says.

"As a reminder, it is a good policy to ensure that the Rockstar Games Social Club account username and password is not shared across multiple websites on the internet."

As such, GTA 5 owners should relax, as Rockstar's systems are still quite secure, provided they themselves don't share their confidential information on insecure websites.
