Harmonix, the studio behind the massively successful Rock Band, has promised that it will continue to release downloadable content for the game every week, as fans are still eager to play new songs in the titles from the franchise.

While Activision’s Guitar Hero established the music video game genre many years ago, Harmonix’s Rock Band series is the only franchise still active, as the studio releases new songs and tracks for the game every week as DLC.

According to the studio’s Community Manager, John Drake, this trend won’t stop, as he told Joystiq that lots of Rock Band fans were still buying new DLC for their games.

"We've been really pleased with the continued performance of Rock Band downloadable content. We've delivered over four years of weekly DLC and over 3500 songs for the music platform, and we have no plans to stop weekly releases any time soon," Drake revealed during last week’s Game Developers Conference.

The Harmonix man also said that fans could have a bigger say in what tracks would be released as DLC for Rock Band games, by using the special Rock Band Dashboard Facebook App and just adding songs to their wishlists.

"Fans can tell us what songs they want by visiting our new Rock Band Dashboard Facebook App and voting for their favorite artists using the built-in Wishlist feature," Drake added.

While the studio is still not thinking about releasing a Rock Band 4 anytime soon, especially since new gamers aren’t as interested in music titles as they once were, it’s currently working on several unannounced projects which it hopes to reveal in the near future.

Given the popularity of the two Dance Central games, it’s obvious that Harmonix will also continue the steady stream of DLC for the titles on the Xbox 360 in the near future.
