Even gaming peripherals, particularly mice, often need some supplementary assistance, especially during games, so Roccat figured it would create a special kind of mouse pad, one dubbed Alumic.

When the PC industry really took off, it didn't take long for the consumer base to split into three main groups.

Known as the low-end (entry-level), mainstream (mid-end) and high-end (enthusiast), they caused hardware and PC suppliers to divide their own product lines accordingly.

It was thus that makers of all sorts of PC components began building graphics, memory, storage and processing solutions of multiple sorts and price points.

In the case of peripherals, high-end keyboards seem to focus on ergonomic designs and multimedia keys, while mice are in an even larger variety.

Depending on what sort they are, mice can be the common 3-button/scroll models or be constructed with more buttons that one can remember by heart.

What all of them have in common, however, at least those meant for gaming, is that they usually benefit from a good mouse pad.

Roccat provided just such a thing, only it took the concept of a mouse pad and turned it up to eleven by giving it two distinct surfaces.

It is dubbed Alumic and has two usable sides, a smooth one and a granular one.

The smooth one is intended for fast gliding, while the other is more useful for high-resolution mice, as it enhances the tracking precision.

For those that want specifics, the product measures 331 x 272 mm, has a thickness of 3mm and an anodized aluminum core, which makes it sturdy and stable. Finally, rubber feet and a gel wrist rest prevent slips and grant comfort, respectively.

Sales should commence by the end of the month, for the price of 40 Euro. Until it does reach the market, full information can be found here.
