Robert Pattinson does not like and probably did not even expect the kind of media exposure he’s now getting after the release of “Twilight” and in the months prior to the release of the second installment of the franchise, “New Moon.” As an interview with Dose.ca reveals, the British actor is past being upset about the Twi-hysteria that is slowly taking over the world, but he continues to be confused about it.

Pattinson, an honest and frank man in real life as well, according to reports in the media and based on his own statements, can’t seem to understand why Edward Cullen, the gorgeous vampire he plays in the movie, is so popular with girls. For starters, he says, he’s the bad guy and should be treated likewise, no matter the redeeming qualities he may or may not have. Because of this, he’s still amazed at how the largely female fanbase he has reacts whenever his character appears on screen and even in real life.

“With virtually anyone the nice guys always seem to come last. You always get weirdos like Edward who seem to attract women for some reason. If Edward wasn’t a fictional character and you met him in reality he is like one of those guys who would probably be an axe murderer or something.” Pattinson explains in the interview. The actor also adds that, while it doesn’t bother him how famous he’s become as Edward, he still has a hard time trying to understand how women can actually go crazy for a guy who, in the end, could turn out to be the vilest creature under the sun, a vampire.

Of course, this is not the first time that Pattinson tackles the topic of fame and the many ways in which it has changed his life. Initially, though, the star said that “Twilight” did bring a level of exposure he could have lived without – especially being hounded by the paparazzi almost around the clock and always making headlines in tabloids for things that he did not do – so it’s good to see that he no longer finds it that disturbing. A while back, for instance, the actor was saying he could not and would condone or encourage fans acting out in an inappropriate manner because they couldn’t tell the difference between what happened onscreen and in real life.

“One time there were these four girls – in Chicago I think – and they had all scratched their necks until they bled, and then when they came up to me they had these bleeding scabs. It was gross. I feel guilty because when you have hundreds of people looking to you, you have to live up to expectations. You see all these people that surround you and you think that one way or another you have to please them.” Pattinson was saying in an older interview about how certain fans couldn’t really see him for Robert and solely thought of him as Edward.
