British actor Robert Pattinson was involved in a car accident that might have cost him his life – and it was all because of “Twilight” female fans, Radar Online reports. Again on the set of “Remember Me,” his latest film, in New York, shooting scenes, the actor wanted to badly avoid being crushed by the mob that he inadvertently jumped in front of a speeding taxi.

This is not the first time that Pattinson has to do with a crowd of female fans who prove to be beyond control, but it is clearly a first in terms of having such potentially harmful consequences. As fans must know, Robert is currently watched over by five massive bodyguards but, as Radar also puts it, they are overpowered and nearly useless when female fans take on the set by the dozens, screaming and crying their way in Robert’s close proximity. The most recent incident is clear proof of that.

“Radar Online witnessed the Twilight star get clipped by a cab around noon in front of the Strand Bookstore on Broadway and 12th Street. He was not hurt.” the paparazzi agency writes in one of today’s posts. Apparently, the incident occurred as Pattinson was trying to leave the bookstore without being torn to pieces by the screaming fans outside. The irony of it all was that, according to the aforementioned source, all he had to do was to simply cross a street to get to the safety of his trailer.

“It was pouring rain as they tried to hustle him quickly across the busy street to the safety of his trailer. Some of the teen girls were hysterical and Rob rushed across the road. As he did so, a taxi grazed him. The cabbie slammed on his brakes as soon as he realized what had happened. It appeared as if the cab hit Rob in the hip. He stood there for a moment looking stunned. The bodyguard next to him checked if he was okay and then screamed at the fans: ‘You see what you did, you almost killed him!’” Radar further says of the incident.

As we also informed you, just a few days ago, Robert was yet again caught in a whirlwind of fans shouting their love at him, as he was making his way to the trailer. Dozens of girls entered the set and tried to get the actor to pay attention to them, while two more bold ones even leapt out of the crowd and hugged him briefly, in what was clearly a very embarrassing moment for the usually very private Robert.
