“Twilight” fans love Robert Pattinson because of his portrayal of the “vegetarian” vampire Edward Cullen in the film franchise, but moviegoers who don’t like the “Saga” love him for an entirely different set of reasons. One of them is his ability to deliver great interviews.

Pattinson recently sat down for one with The Guardian, and among other things, he also reveals his out of the ordinary pre-audition “routine.” The handsome Brit is famous for his self-deprecating humor and how neurotic he gets about his work and the way it’s perceived by the world, which he then talks about in candid interviews.

So perhaps it should come as no surprise that he doesn’t do auditions well. Robert admits he had to do one for “The Rover,” the new film in which he stars opposite Guy Pearce, and that the pre-audition process was just as weird as ever.

“I just can’t… I literally can’t do it. It’s just me looking uncomfortable, trying to put on an American accent… or sitting in the corner, making myself throw up and punching myself in the face,” he says.

Nonetheless, that’s not to say he doesn’t enjoy his job. As much as Pattinson tries to avoid being a celebrity or how awkward he gets when he has to do press for his projects, the reason he’s an actor is because, at the end of the day, he loves his job.

“For whatever reason, I think there’s something profoundly satisfying about being able to watch something you’ve done afterwards, or to just do a scene and feel like: ‘Oh, I just had an out-of-body experience for a second!’ Just for one second. And generally people don’t even notice. It feels literally like you’ve been asleep for a second,” he says.

On the topic of “Twilight” (because, really, there will never be an interview in which he won’t have to talk about it, since that was the role that put him on the map), Pattinson says that Edward was “probably the hardest part” he’s ever done because the character was written in such a way as to be unable to have any “drama.”

Robert played the part in 5 movies and the greatest risk he ran, in his opinion, was that of making the character boring. “Especially if you don’t die. Because what’s the drama? You’re not scared of anything! And that’s the whole essence of drama: life and death,” he says.

He’s not entirely correct on this one because, even if Edward fears nothing where his person is concerned, he is very scared about the fate of Bella and, later on, their daughter Renesmee.

In case you’re not familiar with the plot of “The Twilight Saga,” allow us to fill you in: Bella is a human girl who falls for Edward, a vampire who long stopped drinking human blood, feeding solely on animals. They eventually marry and have a baby girl, with powers like no other because she’s half vampire half human.

“The Twilight Saga” was derided by critics but it was a hit with fans.
