It’s been many months since rumors first emerged of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart being a couple in real life as well and not just in front of the camera as co-stars in the highly successful “The Twilight Saga” films. The speculation can stop now, as the handsome British actor himself is taking the first step towards setting the record straight by confirming for the media he and Kirsten are an item, as The Sun can confirm.

We were also telling you the other day that both Pattinson and Stewart were in attendance at the 2010 BAFTA Awards, were she was up for the Orange Rising Star Award (which she also won), while he was on duty as a presenter. They did not arrive together and were seated as far as possible from each other in the venue. Moreover, they went to extra lengths not to be photographed together on the red carpet – but all that changed after the awards ceremony, says The Sun.

Once they were at the post-BAFTAs party, it was like they no longer had a care in the world, the tabloid claims. Robert and Kristen acted like a young couple in love would, with the actor even saying that they were, indeed, together like the tabs have been speculating for many months. Moreover, it seems the BAFTAs should have been their first event they walked the red carpet as a couple, but they changed their mind at the last minute because of the commotion that might have caused.

“It is extremely difficult but we are together, yes,” Robert said at the post-dinner, admitting this whole guessing game is only meant to distract attention and prevent fans from getting ahead of themselves. “We can’t arrive at the same time because of the fans. It goes crazy. This was supposed to be a public appearance as a couple but it’s impossible. We are here together and it’s a public event but it’s not easy. We have to do all this stuff to avoid attention,” he also said.

On a side note, one might as well mention that, while quoting Pattinson himself, The Sun doesn’t say if the above was a semi-statement he might have made to a media representative or just something someone overheard. Neither does it name its inside source, so, again, fans should take this with a grain of salt.
