Ordinary folks are known to shed the occasional tear (maybe even river of tears) when meeting their idols. Still, it almost never happens that they cry tears of sadness and not tears of joy.

Until Robert Downey Jr. came along, that is. Apparently, the actor made a toddler burst into tears by having the Audacity to walk around in public wearing plain clothes instead of his Iron Man suit.

Jaxson Denno and his mom ran into the actor while enjoying a walk around a neighborhood in Massachusetts, Daily Mail says.

The kid's mom told him that she would introduce him to Iron Man. And then she took him to meet Robert Downey Jr. Talk about deception, right?

The 18-month-old started crying almost in an instant. His mom really did not see this coming, and judging by the look on his face, neither did Robert Downey Jr.

The boy's mother, Heather Denno, says that the actor felt really bad for inflicting this much sorrow on such a young fan, and that he stuck around for a good 15 minutes trying to get him to smile.

Robert Downey Jr. and Heather eventually managed to cheer up Jaxson, and things turned up all right.
