14 DAY TRIAL // Three years after meeting on a blind date and only a couple of weeks after announcing on a television show his intention of settling down, Robbie Williams and girlfriend Ayda Field are now engaged. The singer proposed to Ayda during a live radio show when, seemingly out of the blue, he popped the big question and got an answer in the affirmative, as the Daily Mail reports.
The singer is now in Australia promoting his most recent studio album, “Reality Killed the Video Star,” and was invited on the very popular Kyle and Jackie O breakfast show on Sydney’s 2DayFM. His girlfriend Ayda was also with him, which has prompted some talk that the entire “spontaneous proposal” might have actually been a publicity stunt meant to generate more attention for the album, but also to elevate the profile of the radio show to a certain extent.
“After calling Ayda, 30, into the studio to sit with him, host Jackie O asked 35-year-old Robbie: ‘Sydney has a bit of a reputation for proposals with celebrities, is there any news you want to share?’ Robbie then turned to Ayda and spontaneously said: ‘Is there anyone you want to get married to?’ before finally asking, ‘Will you marry me?’” the Mail writes of the unexpected proposal. Field too was reportedly also somewhat taken aback by it, not knowing what to say at first.
She then said yes, this time, taking the singer by surprise as to what to do next. “Robbie, who clearly had not been prepared for the touching moment, slipped Jackie’s frog ring onto Ayda’s engagement finger. As he did so, Robbie told his soon-to-be wife: ‘I love you so much. Would you be my betrothed until the end of time?’ To which Ayda replied: ‘I would love to be your betrothed until the end of time’,” the same publication continues by saying.
As also noted above, although this should be reason to rejoice for all Robbie fans, some could not help but voice their unhappiness at having such a talented singer resort to such cheap PR stunts just to get more media attention. Of course, in case the proposal was the real deal, detractors will probably see the day to eat their words, as the saying goes. Make sure you keep an eye on this space for this.
