One of the most adored RPG beat'em ups of all times has a follow-up and players will be happy to know that the game has reached its pledged goal on Kickstarter. It is called River City: Underground and although it still has 34 hours to go, the developers have raised the necessary sum of $180.000 / € 132,655 and more.

The project is a North American follow-up with an incredible 2D action, single player and co-op modes, a treat to all fans. The developing studio Conatus Creative promises gamers retro-inspired combat mechanics, having as inspiration old-school fighting games as well as numerous wrestling moves.

This beat'em up RPG brings together talented individuals such as Yoshihisa Kishimoto, the director of Double Dragon, and Rich Vreeland, the composer of the renowned Fez Runner 2.They are in charge of taking the game to a new level.

Yoshihisa Kishimoti has been brought to the team as a creative consultant while Vreeland's task is to create an incredible soundtrack, from funky shopping tunes to the fist-pumping action.

Although the art direction of the game has kept the original in mind, players can notice that the animation is unbelievable smooth. More stores and items have been added, bringing the characters into the light of a new era.

Fans of the game will be happy to know that physical add-ons will be provided for all those that wish to have a soundtrack or game on disc. T-shirts will be available in both English and Japanese versions as well as posters.

Even if they have reached their desired goal of $180.000 / € 132,655, the devs still have some stretch goals such as making the game available for Linux and Mac.

Also, they are interested in having it made for Nintendo and PS3.

This follow-up to River City Ransom represents an ambitious revival of the classic. Although Technos does not exist anymore, a new company has been founded by former Technos artists. Depending on the distribution partners on the launch day, the RPG will have local co-op play and online co-op.
