Compact Flash (CF) memory cards are perhaps the second most important "must have" item in the arsenal of any serious photographer, since this is the format used by most high-end digital cameras currently available on the market. Moreover, having a speedy CF can prove to be quite an advantage for the photographer, and this is the reason why the people over at Ritek have come up with with the 266X Series of 2GB to 16GB cards, which provide both very large storage capacities and quite fast data access rates.

Thus, the flash memory card features dual channels of data throughput to achieve a whopping read speed of up to 266X (approximately 40MB/per sec). Furthermore, the card also offers low power consumption with automatic power management, which might (or might not) help you save some power when using a digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR).

The new series of cards from Ritek is designed to be compatible with most devices and operating systems including PC card Standard, PC card ATA, and true IDE Mode. It also is compatible with host ATA disk I/O BIOS, DOS and Windows file system, utilities, and application software. Furthermore, the controller supports Ultra DMA Mode up to Mode 4.

Much like all of the other Ritek CF cards available on the market, the models from the new 266X series are designed to be reliable, featuring a Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of five million powered on hours. They are compatible with most portable devices with a CF slot, such as digital cameras, video cameras, pocket PCs, notebook PCs, industrial controllers, embedded systems, PMP and other multimedia devices.

"Ritek is committed to provide a comprehensive line of Ridata brand storage solutions for all mobile device users. Our new 266X Series of 2GB to 16GB cards offer dependable, fast, storage for today's demanding consumers," Harvey Liu, president of Advanced Media Inc., commented. "We are pleased to offer the ideal combination of ultimate performance, cutting-edge technology and strong consumer value for photographers or mobile device users."

Unfortunately, there's no word on just how much the models from Ritek's new line will cost, but they'll have to keep the price points at a relatively affordable level in order to have at least a fighting chance against the giants of the industry, namely SanDisk and Lexar.
