Treading in the footsteps of Whitney Houston

After the February 8 incident, when Chris Brown attacked girlfriend Rihanna and beat her almost senseless, the “Umbrella” star has understandably refused to show her face in public to avoid media scrutiny. This is all about to change, though, as she’s in talks to star in a remake of the 1992 hit “Bodyguard,” the British publication The Metro informs.

Citing sources close to the singer, the publication claims Rihanna is currently negotiating with producers to make her debut on the big screen as a leading lady. In doing so, she would virtually tread in the footsteps of singer Whitney Houston, who became an indisputable artist of international fame because of her part in the 1992 movie.

This offer, it seems, has been on the table even before the Chris Brown incident, but it’s only now that Rihanna is truly able to concentrate on it.

“Battered singer Rihanna could soon be singing ‘I will always love you’ but not to bad boy lover Chris Brown, instead for a new acting role in Whitney Houston’s ‘Bodyguard.’ Insiders claim Rihanna’s return to the public eye in New York over the weekend was not only to party to but to discuss acting work. She has been linked to talks to star in a ‘younger’ take on Houston and Kevin Costner’s 1992 box office smash.” Metro informs.

The same source reveals that Rihanna is really serious about going into acting, and has been that way for quite some time now. As for who will replace Kevin Costner and star next to Rihanna in the “Bodyguard” remake, sources for the publication share that the part will most certainly go to “G.I Joe” hottie Channing Tatum, although nothing in this sense has been confirmed thus far.

In all fairness, Tatum is a relatively-new actor on the stage to even be considered for such a major part, several movie-oriented publications are chiming in. If Rihanna is serious about acting, then she will undoubtedly be backed up by the biggest players in the industry in her effort, which would make it only natural if they gave her a well-established actor to star with. Then, a “Bodyguard” remake, if at all, has to carry big names and be really good to not come off as ridiculous, which would, again, somehow eliminate Tatum as a possible contender.

Bear in mind, though, that this is just speculation at the moment. If “Bodyguard” does get a remake and Rihanna is a part of it, rest assured you’ll hear about it here.
