14 DAY TRIAL // Handsome singer Ricky Martin put an end to years of speculation in March 2010 when, in a very beautifully worded and heartfelt post on his official blog, he came out as gay. He's now opening the doors of his home, allowing us to see his beautiful family.
Martin has made headlines before for uploading online vacation pics with his twins, born via surrogate, but this is the first time he agrees to do a family portrait for a major publication.
Ricky and the twins, Matteo and Valentino, and his longtime partner Carlos Gonzalez, are featured in the latest issue of Vanity Fair Spain – and the interview is almost as adorable as the photos.
These show Ricky at home, with the twins and, in just one shot, with Carlos. There's this undeniable feeling of “home” and love, and the impression is the same with the interview.
Ricky has always been very open about his personal life, at times when he deemed it necessary to be so, and this time is no exception.
Speaking candidly, Ricky admits that, while he's gay, he's also been with many women, for whom he felt the most sincere sentiments.
He never lied to them in this regard, he says.
“I’ve slept with women and I’ve fallen in love with them and I’ve felt wonderful things. There was love, passion. I don’t regret anything, any of the relationships I’ve lived, they taught me a lot, both men and women equally,” the star explains.
He also defends his choice of having a surrogate mother for his children.
“I did not rent a womb. That expression is used by fundamentalists. They loaned me an abdomen… I would give my life for the woman who helped me bring my sons into this world,” Ricky says with determination.
He also tells the magazine that his children “will know the truth” and that, for the time being, he's both mother and father to them.
A Spanish citizen since November last year, Martin also talks about same-gender marriage in the interview.
“If they touch [the law], now as a Spanish citizen, I would stand up and unite with my community,” he says.
