They say Ricky Gervais is shameless, while others would beg to differ, saying he’s just insanely funny. One thing is certain: the British comedian is filthy rich, with his fortune estimated at $80 million.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, though, since Gervais has been around for quite some time, doing projects that have proved very popular with his fans, like TV, movies and stand-up shows.

“Ricky Dene Gervais is a British born actor, comedian, writer, and filmmaker with an estimated net worth of $80 million,” Celebrity Net Worth says.

The e-zine also breaks down Gervais’ career in highlights, pointing out how he came to critical and commercial success with the 2001 UK show “The Office,” which is now being remade in the US to the same acclaim.

But that’s not all what Ricky does, as also noted above: he’s also done feature films and even co-directed one (“The Invention of Lying,” in which he also has the lead), has other TV shows under his belt and is enjoying success as a stand-up comedian.

Gervais is also (in)famous for his gig as host of the Golden Globes for two consecutive years, a gig that came to an end after this year’s edition, when he held nothing back in his criticism of Hollywood stars.

Since he really doesn’t stand a chance of ever hosting such a fancy awards show (according to some), Ricky took to his official blog to dish some advice for the hosts of the Oscars 2011, Anne Hathaway and James Franco.

In fact, he did a bit more than just offer advice: he actually wrote their opening dialog, complete with a not too subtle jab at himself, which goes like this:

“JF: Ricky Gervais is now worth $80,000,000. The obnoxious Brit confirmed the figure, adding, ‘Yes and my dentist hasn’t seen a penny.’

“AH: Yeah, why doesn’t he get his teeth straightened and bleached like everyone else in Hollywood?

“JF: It’s a good question Anne. For the same reason he doesn’t have botox or suck up to important producers – there’s something wrong with him.

“AH: There must be. Why isn’t the stocky, fangy, little slob more like us, right?

“JF: That ugly dude needs to get a Hollywood makeover, big time.”
