High officials in the UK have recently agreed to let farmers kill up to 80 badgers each and every night. The measure is intended to keep tuberculosis from spreading from these animals to cattle.

Although he agrees that farmers have the right to protect their cattle against badgers and the diseases that they carry, comedian Ricky Gervais maintains that a vaccination program is by far the best option.

Yesterday, August 26, Ricky Gervais asked his fans and Twitter followers to sign Brian May's petition demanding that high officials in the UK pull the plug on the planned badger cull, Ecorazzi tells us.

“We urge the government to stop the cull and implement the more sustainable and humane solution of both a vaccination program for badgers and cattle, along with improved testing and biosecurity,” the petition reads.

Should the cull not be canceled, animal rights activists say that they will do their best to keep farmers from hunting these animals.

“We will not have to stand between the guns and the badgers. Health and safety rules mean they will not shoot when people are nearby,” activist Jay Tiernan at Stop the Cull reportedly told the press.
