14 DAY TRIAL // You'd think that, when you weigh over a ton and pack serious muscle mass, you can pretty much go for walkies everywhere your heart desires without having to fear that you could be attacked. It turns out this is not always the case. At least not for rhinos.
News from India says that, following their straying out of Assam's Kaziranga National Park, a pair of adult rhinos risk being found and slaughtered by local poachers.
According to Times of India, the rhinos are presently hanging around on the banks of the Brahmaputra. Conservationists warn that poachers are known to be highly active in this area, and that the pachyderms are not in the least safe until they return to the Park.
Rangers and authorities are doing their best to keep tabs on the animals' movements, and hope that they will soon succeed to trick them into going back to the Kaziranga National Park.
“Staff from bith Kaziranga and Sonitpur East forest division are maintaining round-the-clock vigil to protect the rhinos. But the areas are very inaccessible. We are trying to chase them to the park periphery as soon as possible,” said Divisional Forest Officer Aniruddha Dey.
