Poachers in South Africa have recently attacked a pair of white rhinos and have used a battery-powered hacksaw to cut off their horns.

Conservationists explain that, before they mutilated the animals in this gruesome manner, the poachers had drugged them.

However, the drugs the rhinos were given did not act like sedatives, meaning that they left the animals paralyzed, yet conscious of what was happening to them.

Nobody knows how the two animals managed to survive this ordeal, sources report.

More so since Bonnie and Clyde, as these rhinos are named, are the first of their kind ever documented to have escaped alive after falling into the hands of poachers.

The rhinos are now looked after by greenheads working with Investec Rhino Project. These conservationists hope that, once they receive proper care, the rhinos will start feeling better.
