Just yesterday, a rhino mom and her two-year-old old calf were killed by poachers in India. Rangers found their bodies in Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park in the state of Assam, and are now doing their best to locate and arrest the killers.

Information shared with the public says that the animals were gunned down, and that a total of four empty cartridges were found lying close to their bodies.

The rhinoceros were both stripped of their horns, which poachers will no doubt try to sell on the black market to people who will turn them into trinkets or medicine.

Since the beginning of this year, three other rhinos have been killed by poachers in Orang National Park, First Post reports.

The wildlife sanctuary is estimated to be home to merely 90 animals belonging to this species, so it is no wonder that local rangers do not take lightly to such incidents.
