The data access services revenues from mobile business customers are expected to reach $43 billion by 2014, a recent report from ABI Research shows. Moreover, the study also underlines the fact that the revenues will keep up pace with those from mobile messaging services including SMS and mobile e-mail in the enterprise market, which are forecast to reach $48 billion by 2014.

[ADMARk=1]According to the research firm, the data access spending is set to increase beyond that of mobile messaging spending in most markets, although there will still be two major exceptions. Even so, ABI Research notes that there will be one market in which the revenues from mobile data access are expected to exceed mobile messaging revenues by 55 percent.

ABI Research Practice Director Dan Shey commented on the findings of the report, “Data access revenues exceeding messaging revenues demonstrates the importance of data access to the business customer over the long term for business applications, mobile Internet and even mobile e-mail services. The forecast estimates also demonstrate the expansion of mobile devices among mobile business customers. More and more business customers are becoming 1+ data device carriers.”

The two markets where things will be different are North America and Asia-Pacific, ABI Research notes. According to the report, the mobile e-mail adoption and growth in North America will increase the revenues in mobile messaging, while the lower data access adoption in Asia-Pacific market is expected to limit data access revenue growth.

“While operators are concerned about becoming simply access pipes, they are the only access provider for mobile data services. The challenge now for operators is enhancing the value of their pipes. Could operators create access service plans priced for higher levels of speed and services quality?” Dan Shey also stated.

ABI Research’s “Business Mobility Market Data” report offers a view of mobile services adoption in the business area in seven regions, including North America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. The report offers info on mobile services forecast metrics of customers, ARPUs and revenues for voice, messaging, information access, application downloads, and more areas.
