The team might have to move on to another more profitable project

The development team at Respawn Entertainment working on Titanfall says that it is aiming to offer long-term support for the shooter, but that it can only do so as long as the players continue to remain engaged with the title on all platforms on which it is available.

Vince Zampella, one of the leaders of the studio, tells Eurogamer that the company is at the moment satisfied with the number of gamers who are playing, although there are some concerns.

He states, “On console it's been fantastic. On PC it started off really strong and it's starting to dip a little bit now more than we expected. We're looking at that. What are the reasons? Is it something we're doing wrong? Is it the matchmaking? So we'll pay attention to that and figure out what that is.”

Respawn Entertainment says that it wants to see player numbers on the PC increase in the coming months and that it will talk to the community more in order to make sure that they can deliver better matchmaking and other features.

Zampella has also suggested that his team might slow down the pace of release for updates in the next few weeks because many of those working on Titanfall have been in crunch mode for a long time and need to recuperate for a while to avoid burnout.

The developer has also explained that Respawn Entertainment needs to make money in the long term and that means that it might have to limit its engagements with its current shooter if it no longer makes sense to launch new content from a commercial standpoint.

He adds, “If there's not that many people, or the engagement goes down, there's a point where those resources are better spent on whatever our next game would be and making that game better. I hope it lasts a really long time and we can do more stuff.”

Titanfall is offered on the Xbox One, the older 360 and the PC and rumors have recently suggested that Electronic Arts, the publisher, is already exploring the possibility of quickly launching a sequel, which might also be launched on PlayStation platforms.

The game is designed to introduce more mobility into the first-person shooter genre and balance it by adding mechs that focus on increased firepower.

Respawn Entertainment has already said that another two DLC packs for Titanfall will be launched this year.
