At the press conference where it announced the official launch date of February 26, 2011 for the Japanese market for the Nintendo 3DS handheld and the price of 25,000 Yen Nintendo has also offered some more information about the new device and confirmed that both Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid will be launched at the same time as the hardware.

Yoshinori Ono from Capcom took to the stage to talk about the games that his company will deliver for the Nintendo 3DS.

The company is preparing Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D, which will combine missions taken from the fourth and fifth games in the zombie killing series and move them to three dimensions.

Capcom is also delivering Street Fighter IV 3D, a spin off from the popular series, and Megaman Legends 3.

The biggest selling point for the Nintendo 3DS is, as the name implies, the fact that the device will deliver complete three dimensional gaming experiences without the use of any cumbersome glasses.

But Nintendo is also talking up the social abilities of the 3DS, designed to allow gamers to connect with other players.

A Mii creation studio will also be provided on the Nintendo 3DS, allowing users to create their avatar and use it in various applications, some of them no doubt social.

The Nintendo 3DS will also have a new tag functionality, which allows video games installed on the device to communicate with others while the console is in sleep mode.

The device will even have a special light that will attention the user if the console passes another one which has data that can be shared.

The Nintendo 3DS was initially though to arrive before the end of 2010 in Japan but Nintendo set a February 26, 2011 launch date for the home market, with Europe and North America getting it after about one month.
