Resident Evil: Revelations 2 has just received a set of leaked details, thanks to an early copy of a magazine that spills the beans on the game's protagonists – Claire Redfield and Moira Burton, daughter of Barry Burton – as well as on its gameplay mechanics and its targeted visual quality.

Resident Evil: Revelations was among the most popular recent installments in the survival horror series from Capcom, as it really managed to recreate the eerie feeling seen in the original iterations of the franchise, as opposed to the more action-oriented newer ones.

At Sony's pre TGS 2014 press conference, Capcom officially announced Resident Evil: Revelations 2, confirming that the new title would keep the survival horror vibe of the previous installment while switching up the main characters and the general locations.

New details have now surfaced

Capcom has declined to offer any actual info, but now new details have just surfaced online, via Push-Start, which has acquired a copy of GamesMaster magazine that's running an extensive feature on the upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations 2.

The first and most important reveal is that there are two new protagonists, in the form of returning fan-favorite Claire Redfield and new rookie Moira Burton, the daughter of one of Resident Evil 1's main characters, Barry Burton.

Claire has apparently gone through quite a lot since her last appearances in the franchise and her play style is focused more on combat, while Moira is a support-style character that can provide Claire with health herbs, a flashlight, and other items. Claire's death is the only one that prompts a Game Over, so it seems that Moira's support role is quite serious.

Revelations 2 can be played alone or cooperatively, with a friend. It's unclear if the co-op is available locally or just online.

The story sees Claire and Moira get abducted and taken to an abandoned island detention facility. Here, they'll have to escape by taking on a new type of "Afflicted" enemies that are faster and more aggressive than the regular zombies or infected from previous games.

The actual events span the period between Resident Evil 5 and 6, but it's unclear how they'll reference the stories of the two previous games.

Fan feedback is crucial to Capcom

According to Resident Evil: Revelations 2's producer, the whole team has been listening to feedback from fans concerning the first Revelations as well as recent entries in the series.

"The project has been finding the line between listening to fan feedback and also doing something different to confound expectations. I want this to be both a game that doesn’t lose what made its predecessor great, while also bringing something new and exciting to the Resident Evil series. Achieving that lofty goal by bringing together past and future will make this an itchy-tasty prospect indeed."

The game will target a visual performance of 1080p and 60fps on the PC as well as on PS4 and Xbox One. It's unclear how it is going to run on the PS3 or Xbox 360, but you can expect some details to appear as we get closer to the launch of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 in early 2015.
