Capcom has just released Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony and it's saying that the game is set to shortly receive new content via digital distribution. Still, the publisher and developer can't rest and today sent word that it plans to launch a fresh line up of Resident Evil-themed games for the most popular console in the world, the Nintendo Wii.

The big reveal is that Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is set to receive a sequel, called Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, which will launch exclusively for the Wii sometime in the winter of 2009. The company is also set to offer Wii remakes of two GameCube classics, the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Zero.

Mona Hamilton, who is a vice president of marketing at Capcom Entertainment, stated that “We are very excited to be bringing the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles to the Wii as it’s the perfect fit for the platform. We are always looking for new ways to give Capcom fans a chance to experience our games. Umbrella Chronicles was a huge success for us, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles includes a more in-depth co-op experience, and we are excited to bring this exclusive content to the Wii audience.”

The Darkside Chronicles will star Leon S. Kenney and Claire Redfield and will provide an on rails shooter to the player. The idea is to bring new players to the franchise, allowing them to play through updated versions of some of the most important moments in the franchise, while also offering new situations, enemies and scares for those who are already familiar with Resident Evil. A fresh control scheme is being implemented and two player cooperative play will be a must to fully enjoy the game.

The original Resident Evil and Zero will also have support for the Wiimote and updated graphics when they arrive for the Nintendo Wii for the low price of 29.99 dollars.
