The survival horror genre couldn't have reached the place it holds today without the extremely popular Resident Evil franchise. The series, developed by Capcom, took the genre to new heights in terms of gameplay mechanics, graphics and the sense of choice given to the players.

With the latest installment, Resident Evil 5, already nearing the end of its development stage, Capcom is starting to hype it up by presenting various details regarding its creative process. The most important aspect is that a demo for the Xbox 360, which showcases both the single and co-op modes of the game, has been launched only in Japan. But, North American and European fans might also get a taste of the horrific demo by the end of December.

Now, as the game is close to completion, the producer, Jun Takeuchi, recently talked with 1up about Capcom's plans of a remake of the very popular Resident Evil 2 title. He went on to say that fans really loved that game, and that it would be extremely nice if the team of the old game, which he was also part of, got back together and gave the classic title a new life.

“You know, I think there is the demand for it,” said Takeuchi. “It's certainly something we would like to consider and think about, but, quite frankly our hands are full with Resident Evil 5 right now, and trying to get that out of the door, so we're going to have to put all of our focus on Resident Evil 5 for the moment.”

Although it isn't something official, this might bring a smile on the faces of all the Resident Evil fans out there. Resident Evil 2 told the story of Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, whose brother Chris is one of the main characters in the first game. The two team up with a couple of survivors of the zombie-infected Raccoon City and try to escape from the hands of the blood thirsty monsters.

Let's just hope that after the Resident Evil 5 game ships, Capcom might consider a remake for this great game. After all, the company did make an HD remake of Street Fighter II, which fans met with eager anticipation.
